As we all try to stay safe during this pandemic, there is hope in the form of several vaccines that are being tested and showing promise. While vaccination for most of us is months away, the state of South Dakota is forming a plan to get the vaccine out to those who need it most, first. The first vaccine we expect to get in South Dakota is the Pfizer vaccine which is the first one to have applied for approval from the FDA. Front line health care workers will be the first to be vaccinated, second will probably be our friends and loved ones in nursing homes and long-term care facilities, then critical infrastructure workers like teachers, firefighters, first responders and law enforcement. “And then the other critical populations will be people with underlying health cond...

Scientists Figured Out How Much Exercise You Need to Offset a Day of Sitting – ScienceAlert

We know that spending hour after hour sitting down isn't good for us, but just how much exercise is needed to counteract the negative health impact of a day at a desk? A new study suggests about 30-40 minutes per day of building up a sweat should do it.   Up to 40 minutes of "moderate to vigorous intensity physical activity" every day is about the right amount to balance out 10 hours of sitting still, the research says – although any amount of exercise or even just standing up helps to some extent. That's based on a meta-analysis across nine previous studies, involving a total of 44,370 people in four different countries who were wearing some form of fitness tracker. The analysis found the risk of death among those with a more sedentary lifestyle went up as time spent engaging in mod...

Walt Disney To Terminate 32,000 Positions, Mostly In Parks, By March; Includes 28,000 Previously Announced – Deadline

Walt Disney said Wednesday a total of 32,000 employees, mainly in its Parks, Experiences and Resorts division — including 28,000 already announced — will be terminated in the first half of its fiscal 20021, meaning by March. The entertainment giant previously unveiled in September the 28,000 staff cuts at parks, which have been shuttered by the pandemic and only reopened at reduced capacity if at all. Disneyland in fact has not yet reopened. A pre-Thanksgiving SEC filing put a timeframe on the reductions. Disney, like companies across the entertainment industry, has seen layoffs at other divisions as well but nothing of the magnitude of parks. The SEC filing followed by several weeks the company’s fourth-quarter and full-year results released Nov. 12. It said Disney employ...
