Over 1600 COVID-19 cases never made it into Alaskas database after a lab failed to report results for weeks – Anchorage Daily News

We're making this important information about the pandemic available without a subscription as a public service. But we depend on reader support to do this work. Please consider joining others in supporting independent journalism in Alaska for just $3.23 a week. Hundreds of positive COVID-19 test results weren’t reported to Alaska’s health department in the past month, one of several indicators of a taxed data reporting system and a sign that climbing daily case tallies announced by the state reflect only a portion of recent cases. Public health workers audit labs and clinics periodically to understand their case numbers and make sure the department isn’t missing anything. Recently, they found out there was missing data from a specific lab, ...

‘Just Be Careful; North Texas Man Shares COVID-19 Story From Hospital – NBC 5 Dallas-Fort Worth

A North Texas man hopes sharing his experience with COVID-19 while he recovers in the hospital will encourage others to take the virus seriously. Andre Terry, a father and Dallas-based designer, is being treated at Baylor Scott & White in Irving after he tested positive for COVID-19 last Saturday. Doctors have since confirmed he also has pneumonia, Terry said. Terry said he initially did not display symptoms like coughing or a fever, but he did experience fatigue. “I’m a fashion designer, so I was just at home working,” he recalled. “Then I started getting real tired, literally having to stop in the middle of projects and was like, 'God, I got to lay down.'" “I was even too tired to walk back to my car. I had to go sit on a park bench and my car was just in th...

WWE SmackDown Results: Winners, Grades, Reaction and Highlights from November 27 – Bleacher Report

0 of 6 Credit: WWE.com WWE Survivor Series was a night of failure for Friday Night SmackDown, though it was a close fight. The blue brand's champions mostly reigned supreme, but the traditional elimination tag team matches went to Monday Night Raw. Roman Reigns emerged victorious thanks to the support of Jey Uso. He helped take down Drew McIntyre when the referee was injured. However, Uso also fell short as team captain of the men's SmackDown team. He needed to prove his worth to The Tribal Chief. Sasha Banks defeated Asuka in one of the biggest confidence boosting moments of her career. Carmella though waits in the wings, looking to knock her off her pedestal. The rest of the SmackDown women's division fell short, losing just barely down the stretch despite Bianca Belair's best eff...

The “Fast and Furious” franchise star couldn’t contain his excitement when he shared an image from the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade on Thursday that featured a gigantic blowup balloon of a younger “Rock” donning his signature fanny pack and famous high-top curls. “This time in my life may represent when I had just $7bucks in my fanny pack, but at least I had enough COOL to tuck my turtleneck in and wear fake silver jewelry because it was all I could afford 🤣🤦🏽‍♂️,” Johnson wrote on Instagram, adding, “Never in my wildest dreams... I’ve been a lucky SOB to have done some pretty cool s--- in my career, but after seeing my @nbcyoungrock FANNY PACK FLOAT in the #MacysThanksgivingParade, this might take the cake.” The large floatable was cre...

L.A. County adopts new stay-at-home order amid COVID surge – Los Angeles Times

As the number of new coronavirus cases continued to rise in Los Angeles County, health officials Friday issued a temporary and limited stay-at-home order that will take effect Monday. The restrictions, which will last for three weeks, are not as severe as those imposed in the spring. “Residents are advised to stay home as much as possible and always wear a face covering over their nose and mouth when they are outside their household and around others,” the county public health department said. The order prohibits all public and private gatherings with individuals not in the same household, except for religious services and protests. It imposes new occupancy limits on businesses, such as personal care and retail, but does not close them. Beaches, trails and parks will remain open, but ...

Santa Clara County sees record 512 COVID-19 cases in single day, issues 76 business fines – San José Spotlight

Santa Clara County tallied a record 512 COVID-19 cases in a 24-hour period the day before Thanksgiving, and wasted no time cracking down on businesses violating health orders. As of Nov. 27, Santa Clara County had 32,985 COVID-19 cases and 545 deaths. In addition, 222 people were hospitalized with the virus. Of these, 68 were in intensive care units and 193 out of 624 ventilators were in use. The soaring case rate raised alarm among health officials as hospitals braced to admit more patients. “We are really, really concerned,” said COVID-19 Testing Officer Dr. Marty Fenstersheib. “All of the metrics that we have been following that have done well in previous months have gone up very steeply.” In July, amid a previous surge, the highest case rate the county recorded was 385 ca...

Jake Paul Denies Calling COVID ‘a Hoax’ — So Reporter Produces the Receipts – Yahoo Entertainment

YouTube star Jake Paul has claimed he was misquoted when saying COVID-19 is a “hoax” during a recent interview with The Daily Beast’s Marlow Stern. But on Friday, Stern dropped the receipts that prove otherwise. Paul, who is certainly no stranger to inciting controversy, made the claims against Stern on Friday in a separate interview with The Verge, in which he was asked about his prior comments on the pandemic. “So this guy, this reporter, he misquoted me. He took what I said out of context, and I told him that. I told him that the whole entire time,” Paul said. “COVID is very, very real. COVID is very real, like, it’s killed so many people. It’s killed people I know. It’s killed someone very, very close to me. So that’s what I’m saying. I don’t even know where that came from.” Also Rea...
