Castle Rock Cancelled at Hulu After Two Seasons — No Season 3 – TVLine

Hulu won’t be scaring up a third season of Castle Rock. TVLine has learned that the anthology horror series, which debuted in July 2018 and launched its sophomore run in October 2019, has been cancelled. Set in the titular Maine town where many of Stephen King’s published works take place, Castle Rock weaved together characters and locations from the author’s novels to make way for new mysteries. In Season 1, for example, André Holland starred as Henry Deaver, a death-row attorney who returned home to Castle Rock after a mysterious man (played by Bill Skarsgård) turned up at Shawshank State Prison. In Season 2, TVLine Performer of the Week Lizzy Caplan played a younger version of Misery‘s Annie Wilkes, who was on the run from the FBI after committing a murder — and when s...

Virus hospitalizations surge as pandemic shadows US election – The Associated Press

Americans went to the polls Tuesday under the shadow of a resurging pandemic, with an alarming increase in cases nationwide and the number of people hospitalized with COVID-19 reaching record highs in a growing number of states. While daily infections were rising in all but three states, the surge was most pronounced in the Midwest and Southwest. Missouri, Oklahoma, Iowa, Indiana, Nebraska, North Dakota, and New Mexico all reported record high hospitalizations this week. Nebraska’s largest hospitals started limiting elective surgeries and looked to bring in nurses from other states to cope with the surge. Hospital officials in Iowa and Missouri warned bed capacity could soon be overwhelmed. The resurgence loomed over candidates and voters, fearful of both the virus itself and the econom...

I’m a Chess Expert. Here’s What ‘The Queen’s Gambit’ Gets Right – The New York Times

Despite the efforts to make the chess scenes believable, there are still areas in which the series comes up short. The most apparent is in how fast the players move during the tournaments. As one tournament director tells Beth before a competition in Cincinnati, each player has two hours to make 40 moves, which was, and still is, a standard time control for such games. But in every match, Beth and her opponents make each of their moves after taking only a few seconds to think about them. At such a tempo, they would finish their games in minutes, not hours. The speed is understandable for filmmaking because watching players sit at a board for hours, barely moving, is not riveting. But it is also not accurate. Nor is having competitors talk during some of the games. Other than offering a dr...
