Nasal spray might prevent COVID-19 infections – Engadget

A spray like this is still some ways from reaching the public. There would need to be human clinical trials, not to mention large-scale production to provide enough access. Scientists are planning to “rapidly advance” to further testing, Columbia said. The move could bring protection to many parts of the world where mass COVID-19 vaccinations would be difficult. It might also serve as a “complement” even in places where vaccines are readily available, key researchers Anne Moscona and Matteo Porotto said. People who can’t take vaccines, or those for whom vaccinations don’t work, could spray themselves daily knowing they’d be safe. That, in turn, could further limit the spread of the virus and hasten the end to the pandemic. ...

Mandalorian Season 2 finally tells a new story using this classic trope – Inverse

The Mandalorian is breaking new ground by being normal. While other streaming shows are slowly morphing into ten-hour movies only broken up with credits, the Disney+ series delivers a fully-formed adventure every week. It's a reminder that episodic shows are for more than Quantum Leap and X-Files, they can work in the present day too. Usually, this means episodes would get formulaic (how many different western-style story types are there really?), but Mandalorian has found a way to adapt genres for the Star Wars universe and subvert them. Chapter 10, "The Passenger," is no different. While the Season 2 premiere was a good old fashioned western complete with a ghost town and a marshal, it still felt like many of the same stories we've seen before—Mando needs something, someone else needs ...

Updated Hall of Presidents Show Likely for Magic Kingdom After Less Than 4 Years, Joe Biden Audio-Animatronic Should Be Expected Following Election Victory – wdwnt.com

After days of counting ballots, the time-honored democratic process of electing (or re-electing) the nation’s president has finally concluded in the United States. Joe Biden has officially won the 2020 Presidential Election—and while that will mean many changes for the country, the outcome may also affect a tiny corner of Walt Disney World—namely, the Hall of Presidents. Since its inception, the Hall of Presidents has added a new audio-animatronic figure of each newly-elected president entered into office. From Gerald R. Ford, to Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, and George H.W. Bush, the tradition has continued with the addition of Bill Clinton, George W. Bush, Barack Obama, and lastly, Donald Trump. It’s assumed that Joe Biden will also get the animatronic treatment, with arrangements to...

6,000+ People Infected from Chinese Vaccine Factory Leak – Breitbart

Over 6,000 people in China’s northwestern city of Lanzhou have tested positive for brucellosis after they were exposed to contaminated aerosols from a state-run brucellosis vaccine factory leak over a year ago, Chinese state health authorities announced on November 4. “A total of 55,725 people have been tested so far near the factory, accounting for 97.5 percent of the total residents in Yanchang Road sub-district, the worst impacted area, and 6,620 have been confirmed infected,” the Chinese state-run Global Times reported on Thursday. The new figure more than doubles the number of cases Lanzhou health authorities said they had documented as of September 14 in connection with the same outbreak. At the time, government health officials said they had recorded just 3,245 positive ...

COVID-19 Patient Zero: Data Analysis Identifies the “Mother” of All SARS-CoV-2 Genomes – SciTechDaily

Temple researchers have identified the first genome to transmit the coronavirus. In the field of molecular epidemiology, the worldwide scientific community has been sleuthing to solve the riddle of the early history of SARS-CoV-2. Since the first SARS-CoV-2 virus infection was detected in December 2019, tens of thousands of its genomes have been sequenced worldwide, revealing that the coronavirus is mutating, albeit slowly, at a rate of 25 mutations per genome per year. But despite major efforts, no one to date has identified the first case of human transmission, or “patient zero” in the COVID-19 pandemic. Finding such a case is necessary to better understand how the virus may have jumped from its animal host first to infect humans as well as the history of how the SARS-CoV-2 v...
