Jason Momoa says he was completely in debt after Game of Thrones – Page Six

Jason Momoa says he went broke and couldn’t find another acting gig for years after playing Khal Drogo on HBO’s “Game of Thrones.” “I mean, we were starving after ‘Game of Thrones,'” Momoa, 41, said in a new InStyle interview. “I couldn’t get work. It’s very challenging when you have babies and you’re completely in debt.” The actor, who shares two children with wife Lisa Bonet, said he struggled to pay the bills at his Topanga Canyon house until he landed a role on “Justice League” in 2016. Now, Momoa is a leading man, having starred in the titular role for “Aquaman,” but very early in his career, he struggled to book acting jobs, too. When his first gig, “Baywatch Hawaii,” wrapped in 2001, Momoa moved to Los Angeles, but said he “couldn’t even get an agent for thr...

Industry review: in HBO’s drama, true equality comes from money – The Verge

Early on in HBO’s Industry, there’s an extremely familiar scene: a boss addresses a room of young recruits and tells them that only half of them will make it and that they should do whatever they can to be one of the last ones standing. And so another group of promising young people sets their lives ablaze in the service of an exploitative industry, with the promise of money as the light at the end of the tunnel. Industry — created by Mickey Down and Konrad Kay, with a pilot directed by Lena Dunham — is set in London’s world of high-stakes investment banking, and it follows a diverse group of fresh graduates who are the latest hires for the fictional Pierpoint & Co. Cliché abounds, especially in the way the young new hires are hazed and degraded by their superiors. The bottom l...

Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade Revives Broadway for a Day – The New York Times

Broadway may be dark for several months to come, but actors from four shuttered shows have been given the opportunity — a rare one during the coronavirus pandemic — to put on their costumes and perform. The venue: Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. The term parade is being used loosely this year. The helium-filled balloons and star-studded floats will not be traveling their typical jam-packed, two-and-a-half-mile route starting at West 77th Street. They will be gliding just one city block down 34th Street, near the flagship department store, and without an audience. But even if it’s more television show than crowd fest this year, the parade will provide a brief respite from the doldrums of a darkened Broadway with performances by the casts of “Hamilton,” “Mean Girls,” “Jagged Little Pill,” ...

Two deaths, 142 additional COVID-19 cases reported in Maine – Press Herald

The Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention reported 142 new cases of COVID-19 on Wednesday as well as two additional deaths. To date, 158 deaths in Maine have been linked to the coronavirus, with the two most recent cases identified as a man in his 80s from Knox County and a woman in her 70s from Waldo County. While Maine’s death rate from COVID-19 remains among the lowest in the country, the number of fatalities tied to the virus is increasing in Maine — including four additional deaths reported Tuesday — as the virus surges across the state. Hospitalizations are also approaching their highest levels during the now eight-month-long pandemic as Maine experiences the highest virus reproduction rate in the country. Maine CDC reported 59 hospitalizations on Tuesday — just sh...

Britney Spears Loses Bid to Remove Father From Conservatorship, Refuses to Perform – Variety

Pop star Britney Spears’s bid to remove her father James Spears from the conservatorship of her estate has suffered a temporary setback with a Los Angeles court declining the application. James Spears has been her co-conservator since 2008, when the singer suffered a very public breakdown. He became sole conservator in 2019 after attorney Andrew Wallet resigned from his co-conservatorship. In a hearing on Tuesday, Los Angeles superior court judge Brenda Penny declined to suspend James Spears from his conservatorship, though she did not rule out future petitions for his removal or suspension. “My client has informed me that she is afraid of her father,” Britney Spears’ attorney Samuel D. Ingham III told the judge. “She will not perform again if her father is in charge of her ...

Masks protect wearers and others from COVID-19, CDC says – New York Post

Wearing a face mask also can help protect you — not just others from you — from the coronavirus, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The CDC’s new guidance updated its previous assertion that the main benefit of wearing a mask was to help prevent those infected from spreading the bug to others. “Adopting universal masking policies can help avert future lockdowns, especially if combined with other non-pharmaceutical interventions such as social distancing, hand hygiene, and adequate ventilation,” the CDC said. “The prevention benefit of masking is derived from the combination of source control and personal protection for the mask wearer,” it said. “The relationship between source control and personal protection is likely complementary and possibly s...

I Got Toxic Shock Syndrome After Contracting An Infection Via A Cut – Womens Health

On July 24, 2018, I needed a break from being mommy to my 5-year-old son Kao. So, I went to the nail salon to get a pedicure and unwind. When the nail technician got to my left foot, she went too hard with the nail file and accidentally cut my big toe. It started bleeding everywhere. Because I live with type I diabetes, I’m actually more prone to calluses and foot injuries due to poor circulation. I thought to myself, Darn, it probably won’t heal well—that’s not good. But otherwise I didn’t worry about the injury at all. These things happen! We wiped off my toe, wrapped it up, and let it dry. Then, the nail technician painted my toenails and that was that. When I got home, my toe started to turn red and swell up. By the next morning, it had blown up to nearly double its size. My hu...
