Choosing the best mask to protect you and others, according to new CDC guidelines – CNN

But what type of mask will offer you and others the best protection from any novel coronavirus circulating in the air? "You want to have a minimum two-ply mask, preferably a three-ply mask," said Allen, who has focused his career on " sick buildings" and how they affect worker performance and productivity. "In addition to level of filtration, we have to pay attention to fit," Allen continued. "You want the mask to go over the bridge of the nose, below the chin and be flush on the face, resting along the skin. You want your breath going through the filter media and not escaping out the sides." No N95 masks or exhalation values, please This is important: Do not buy N95 masks for your personal use, the CDC says. While those are the most effective -- filtering out 95% of all particles -- th...

Kelly Ripa says she and co-host Ryan Seacrest have a weird codependency – Fox News

Ryan Seacrest got emotional after being showered with compliments by his “Live with Kelly and Ryan” co-star, Kelly Ripa.  The duo has been working together since he took over the co-host chair for Michael Strahan in 2017. Speaking to Entertainment Tonight in a joint interview, Seacrest got teary-eyed while explaining the profound friendship they’ve developed in their years working together.  “Working with your friends is a great privilege. It is a joy, and I have to say that it is a rare thing to work with a guy who is so authentic and fun and joyful and humble and generous and kind to everyone," Ripa said. “What you see of Ryan on the air is the person he is backstage, which is a unique thing." She went on to compliment the “joyfulness” and “authenticity” he brings to her life.  KEL...

Lucasfilm exec comes to defense of Baby Yoda, whos apparently in trouble for eating some ladys eggs – The A.V. Club

Photo: Lucasfilm The unthinkable has happened: People are mad at Baby Yoda. Given the average social media life cycle of beloved figures, perhaps we should only be surprised that it took this long for the knives to come out for Baby Yoda. Per Entertainment Weekly, last week’s episode of The Mandalorian elicited some pretty angry reactions from viewers who were UPSET about a particular scene in “The Passenger.” The title refers to a new character named Frog Lady (Misty Rosas), who enlists Pedro Pascal’s Mando to safely transport her and a large container of her eggs, which need to be fertilized by her husband (Frog Lord, we presume) before the equinox. Oh, and Frog Lady’s in a bit of a crunch because this is the last time she can make egg babies and her species is facing extinction, so ...

Case for Mask Mandate Rests on Bad Data – The Wall Street Journal

The top scientific journal Nature Medicine published a study on Oct. 23 with an astounding claim: By simply wearing masks at higher rates, Americans could prevent as many as 130,000 Covid-19 fatalities by the end of February 2021. Produced by the University of Washington’s Institute for Health Metrics Evaluation, or IHME, the study garnered immediate acclaim. More than 100 news outlets trumpeted the study’s findings in the days following its publication—“The Price for Not Wearing Masks: Perhaps 130,000 Lives” was the New York Times ’s headline—and a few hundred more articles have been written since. Reporting was often paired with calls for a national mask mandate, echoing President-elect Biden and now Anthony Fauci, the top U.S. infectious-disease official. The st...

Watch: ‘We need to flatten this curve,’ Spectrum Health CEO says – WOODTV.com

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WOOD) — Saying it is nearing capacity as the number of COVID-19 inpatients increase, West Michigan’s largest hospital system on Wednesday put out a plea to the community to double down on mitigation practices and help flatten the curve. During a virtual press conference, Spectrum Health officials said they were expanding intensive care capacity and dedicating more space for patients with COVID-19. Surgeries that require overnight hospital stays are being deferred and more programs are being moved to curbside or virtual formats. “Even with these actions, the reality is that Spectrum Health and our hospitals across the state will be hitting their capacity in a matter of days,” Spectrum Health President and CEO Tina Freese Decker said.
