Covid-19: Growth in cases may be slowing in England – BBC News

Image copyright Reuters The growth in cases of coronavirus may be slowing down, the largest study of the infection in England suggests. A team at Imperial College London analysed samples from 84,000 people chosen at random from across the country. They said the R number, the virus's reproduction number, appears to have fallen since measures including the "rule of six" were introduced. However, they warn cases are high, with one in every 200 people infected. The React study is highly influential, both due to its size and because it gives an up-to-date picture of how the virus is spreading. A feral cat found in Alexandria, Virginia, tested positive for rabies, officials say. The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria said officers captured the small gray cat on Tuesday after it was seen acting aggressively in the Alexandria West area. Cardi B Talks Pressure on Female Rappers to Put Out New Music, Says She Wont Release a Song Just Because – Billboard

Ever since Cardi B released "Press" in 2019, she's been taking her time working to share music she knows her fans will love. That's why she waited almost a year before dropping "WAP" with Megan Thee Stallion. But even someone as openly confident as the "Bodak Yellow" rapper admits that she feels the pressure to crank out hits. She discussed the topic in an interview with SiriusXM on Wednesday (Sept. 30), admitting that "at one time, I felt like I was putting out too much music and I took a little break." "Throughout this whole time people were making rumors like, ‘Oh she’s having problems with her label,’ ‘Her label is shelving her,’ ‘Her label is tired of her and they’re getting more female talent,'" she continued. "It’s like, no, they never tired of me. Labels, they want you to...

Top Filmmakers Warn Congress That Movie Theaters Face Extinction – Hollywood Reporter

6:47 PM PDT 9/30/2020 by Pamela McClintock "Cinemas are an essential industry that represent the best that American talent and creativity have to offer. But now we fear for their future," reads a letter sent to Capitol Hill lawmakers asking for additional pandemic relief. Dozens of influential filmmakers on Wednesday joined the National Association of Theatre Owners, the Directors Guild of America and the Motion Picture Association in urging Congress to provide assistance to struggling theater owners impacted by the ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Together, they warn that many cinemas may not otherwise survive. The vast majority of exhibition companies — or 93 percent — weathered losses of 75 percent in the second quarter of 2020 after moviegoing came to an unpreceden...
