Zendaya fans mistake the meaning of upset after historic Emmys 2020 win – New York Post

The 2020 Emmys offered a teachable moment for Zendaya fans, who were apparently confused by the meaning of “upset.” The 24-year-old’s surprise victory for her portrayal of Rue Bennett in HBO’s “Euphoria” over acting vets Jennifer Aniston, Laura Linney, Olivia Colman, Jodie Comer and Sandra Oh left groupies shocked — over the New York Post’s tweet announcing Zendaya’s Lead Actress in a Drama Series win. “Biggest upset: Zendaya wins Emmys 2020 over Jennifer Aniston, Laura Linney,” read The Post’s tweet, accompanied by a screengrab of a tickled Zendaya, the youngest woman to win the trophy in Emmy’s history, clutching her award. Fans were quick to come to Zendaya’s defense. “No ones upset,” wrote one fan, garnering more than 1,000 “likes” on the platform. “Hate to see a power...

Exclusive: Study suggests dengue may provide some immunity against COVID-19 – Reuters

RIO DE JANEIRO (Reuters) - A new study that analyzed the coronavirus outbreak in Brazil has found a link between the spread of the virus and past outbreaks of dengue fever that suggests exposure to the mosquito-transmitted illness may provide some level of immunity against COVID-19. The not yet published study led by Miguel Nicolelis, a professor at Duke University, and shared exclusively with Reuters, compared the geographic distribution of coronavirus cases with the spread of dengue in 2019 and 2020. Places with lower coronavirus infection rates and slower case growth were locations that had suffered intense dengue outbreaks this year or last, Nicolelis found. “This striking finding raises the intriguing possibility of an immunological cross-reactivity between dengue’s Flavivirus sero...

Rabies-infected bats identified in Lincoln County, health officials say – KOCO Oklahoma City

A rabies-infected bat was discovered this week in the area around Bell Cow Lake, within the Chandler city limits in Lincoln County, according to officials with the Oklahoma State Department of Health. This is the second rabies-positive bat found in the area in the past six weeks, officials said.“Oklahoma is seeing more cases of rabies in the state this year than previous years,” State Public Health Veterinarian LeMac’ Morris said. “With more sightings of skunks and bats, this is the perfect time to remind pet owners about the importance of vaccinating family pets, and even livestock.”Rabies is an acute viral infection that is transmitted to humans or other mammals usually through the saliva from a bite of an infected animal, health officials said. Rabies can also be contracted when s...

CDC says it erroneously posted guidance that said coronavirus spreads through air and travels beyond 6 feet – CNBC

David Paul Morris | Bloomberg | Getty Images The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Monday it erroneously posted guidance saying the coronavirus spreads through airborne particles that can remain suspended in the air and travel beyond 6 feet. The updated guidance, posted on the CDC's website on Friday, also recommended that people use air purifiers to reduce airborne germs indoors to prevent the disease from spreading, according to Reuters. "A draft version of proposed changes to these recommendations was posted in error to the agency's official website," the CDC said Monday. "CDC is currently ...

Does Sarah Paulson See Nurse Ratched as a Villain? – Showbiz Cheat Sheet

In Ratched, Sarah Paulson portrays the primary protagonist (if such a kind term applies) in the Netflix prequel to One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest. The Ryan Murphy production provides insight into Nurse Mildred Ratched’s life, arguably weaving a narrative that leads to her days as the cold-hearted head nurse in the 1975 film.  Sarah Paulson | Neilson Barnard / Staff While many would consider Nurse Ratched — especially the filmic character — to be one of the most hateful and cruel villains ever to grace a screen, Paulson comes to the character with a different perspective. And, considering the complicated past that the Ratched writers have forged, the character begins to lose her heinous air of mystery (for better or worse).  During an interview with Jake’s Takes, Pau...
