State health leaders hammered home warnings at the start of September that the COVID-19 pandemic was not nearly over despite a low daily death count and a relatively stable number of hospitalizations.
The days went on, hospitalizations dipped and new case counts moderated, offering some hope the trends would continue. Now, though, with some 2,200 cases reported over the weekend and another 900 on Monday, Minnesota appears to be back on an upswing it does not want.
As of Monday, the state showed 6,799 active, confirmed cases, the highest daily number recorded in the outbreak and far higher than the seven-day average of 5,596.
