Cardi B and her sister sued over altercation with group displaying Trump flag, MAGA hat – NBC News

Cardi B, her sister and her sister's partner were named in a lawsuit seeking damages for a beach altercation earlier this month with a group of people displaying a flag with the name of President Donald Trump, according to a case filed Monday in New York State Supreme Court. The rapper's sister, Hennessy Carolina — whose full name is Hennessy Carolina Almánzar — is accused of battering, assaulting, threatening and defaming three people who gathered on a New York beach near a vehicle flying the Trump flag, one of whom was wearing what the suit describes as a "MAGA hat." MAGA is short for "Make America Great Again," one of Trump's campaign slogans. Cardi B and model Michelle Diaz, Carolina's partner, are also named in the suit for their alleged roles in defaming and libeling the trio in s...

Cuties movie sees Netflix users flock to the screen due to controversy – Fox Business

Crime Stories with Nancy Grace host Nancy Grace on backlash over the Netflix film “Cuties.” The people demanding that viewers boycott Netflix over the release of the movie “Cuties” (“Mignonnes”) may have had the opposite effect. The movie focuses on a group of 11-year-old girls who form a provocative dance group that performs somewhat sexualized routines, much to the chagrin of one character’s very conservative Senegalese family. Previews and promotions for the film led many to call on Netflix to remove it from its library and had the hashtag “#CancelNetflix” briefly trending. According to a Hollywood marketing and research firm, Screen Engine/ASI, the highly publicized controversy surrounding the movie may have only succeeded in piquing people’s interest. The Hollywood Reporte...

‘He Never Quit’: Nick Cordero’s Widow on Grief, God and Perseverance – The New York Times

How did you start enlisting people to sing “Live Your Life” each day? I thought, if anything’s going to wake him up, it’s going to be the whole world singing his song. He always wanted to be a rock star, and we’re going to make him a rock star. And then it caught on like wildfire. You and your sister started a T-shirt line together, and now you’re going to collaborate on a book? Yes, I’m writing a memoir about this time, and I’m writing it with Anna Kloots, my sister. It’s about everything I went through, and about positivity and faith and resilience. I started writing when I was in Ohio, with my mom and dad, right after Nick passed. I’ve actually found it to be incredibly therapeutic. It seems like religion has also been an important part of the way you’re getting through this. I grew up...

More indoor operations allowed as San Luis Obispo County moves into lower COVID-19 tier – KSBY San Luis Obispo News

San Luis Obispo County has been given the green light to move into the next COVID-19 tier. The announcement Tuesday means some indoor operations are now allowed with modifications for places like restaurants, gyms, movie theatres and places of worship. In order to move into the State’s red tier, which downgrades counties from widespread risk to substantial, San Luis Obispo County had to meet a lower case and positivity rate criteria for two weeks. While the news is welcome to many, the county warns that a spike in COVID-19 cases could put the county back into the most restrictive tier. “While we celebrate this small success, we must stay vigilant,” said San Luis Obispo County Public Health Officer Dr. Penny Borenstein. “Our progress depends on each person in SLO County. We need everyo...

‘Supergirl’ To End With Upcoming Season 6 On The CW – Deadline

Supergirl will be taking her last flight. The CW and producers Warner Bros TV and Berlanti Productions just announced that the drama series starring Melissa Benoist will conclude with the upcoming sixth season, set for premiere on the CW in 2021. It is the second series from the CW’s DC Arrowverse to come to an end following Arrow, which wrapped its eight-year run last season. Production on all 2020-21 broadcast series was delayed by the coronavirus pandemic. Additionally, Supergirl had been targeting a later start of production to accommodate the pregnancy of star Benoist. I hear the series is slated to begin filming in Vancouver on September 28, pending a deal with the local unions to comply with SAG’s testing guidelines, which has been a sticking point for a number of Hollywoo...

A Handful of New Emoji, Ranked – Gizmodo

Image: Emojipedia Everyone loves good emoji, am I right, folks? Well, we’re getting a light lineup of expressive characters in the forthcoming Emoji 13.1, which will arrive sometime in 2021. There are 217 in total, but 210 expand on skin tone variations for existing emoji. That means there are just seven new emojis ripe for a ranking. It’s pretty nice that they also perfectly capture the spirit of what it means to be alive in the year of our lord 2020, a time when everything is literally and figuratively on fire. Because ranking is something we do here—as we have for sexting and merely for the hell of it—so, too, shall this thin offering of emoji be ranked. Image: Emojipedia 7. Face in clouds Per Unicode, this emoji is meant to represent the state of being “absentminded.” Get...
