Three dead, 147 infected after COVID-19 super-spreader wedding in Maine – New York Post

Three people have died of COVID-19 and 147 are infected as a result of an outbreak stemming from an indoor wedding and reception last month in Maine. Although the state’s limit on social gatherings is 50, at least 65 people attended the Aug. 7 ceremony at the Tri-Town Baptist Church and the reception at Big Moose Inn in Millinocket, the Daily Mail reported. By the last week of August, officials said they traced 53 cases of the coronavirus linked to people who attended the wedding in three separate Maine towns. By Friday, 147 Maine residents who either had gone to the wedding or got second-hand infections were recorded as having the virus, officials said. “One of the things we’ve learned over the past six months of working with outbreaks and COVID-19 is that no outbreak is ...

Disneys live-action Mulan copies Star Wars and Marvel, in the worst way – CNET

Yifei Liu, who plays Mulan, doesn't get as much character development in the new Disney Plus film.  Disney With its new take on Mulan, Disney got a chance to breathe life into the legendary female warrior -- a fixture of centuries-old Chinese storytelling -- with a gritty retelling and a picture-perfect cast of actors. So it's ironic that the animated version that debuted more than two decades ago still shows more vim, vigor and character growth than the ...

The Boys season 2 voice cameo: Behind the voice of The Deep’s gills – Polygon

Pretty much everything that happens on Amazon’s comics adaptation The Boys is outrageous — that’s par for the course when you’re writing a comedy about gun-toting vigilantes taking on fascist corporatized superheroes. But a sequence in episode 2 that involves a Scientology-esque religious cult, a potent dose of hallucinogenic drugs, and existential peril for ex-The Seven member The Deep might be the show’s pièce de résistance, thanks in large part to the voice casting. [Ed. note: This story contains spoilers for The Boys season 2, episode 2, “Proper Preparation and Planning”] The Boys season 2 finds The Deep reeling (heh) over his departure from Vought. Lost without heroic purpose, he exposes himself to kids at a waterpark, and is promptly hauled off to jail. A new hero, Eagle the...

Experts project autumn surge in coronavirus cases, with a peak after Election Day – The Washington Post

An autumn surge in covid-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, would not be an October surprise: It has been hypothesized since early in the pandemic because of the patterns of other respiratory viruses. “My feeling is that there is a wave coming, and it’s not so much whether it’s coming but how big is it going to be,” said Eili Klein, an epidemiologist at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. The pandemic is already a dominant campaign issue, and it’s not clear that even a spike in deaths would apply much torque to the presidential race. Outbreaks in some states could also bring pressure further down the ballot and conceivably affect turnout if there is so much community spread that voters who planned to cast ballots in person feel unsafe going to the polls. Respira...
