Coronavirus may have surfaced in Los Angeles just before Christmas – Fox News

The coronavirus may have been in Los Angeles around Christmas, before the novel coronavirus was officially identified in the United States, according to researchers from the University of California, Los Angeles, and the University of Washington. The team of researchers discovered a spike in patients with acute respiratory failure and coughs at UCLA Health hospitals and clinics around late December 2019, when they analyzed health records, according to a press release from the university. The findings published in a report in the Journal of Medical Internet Research suggest that novel coronavirus may have been surfacing in the area months before the first case was officially identified. CDC report: dining out increases risk of contracting coronavirus more than other activities | TheHill – The Hill

Dining out is one of the riskiest possible activities during the coronavirus pandemic, according to a report issued by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on Thursday, citing the fact that masks are not used while people are eating and drinking. CDC officials interviewed about 314 people who experienced symptoms of the virus and got tests, about half of whom were positive. Both the positive and the negative subjects said they had engaged in activities such as attending church and in-person shopping. However, people who tested positive were about twice as likely than those who tested negative to say they had dined at a restaurant. People who tested positive but could not identify a specific occasion when they were exposed to the virus were also more likely to have re...

Katie Holmes New Relationship Has Hit An Ex-Fiancee-Sized Bump In The Road – HuffPost

Not one to wait for her life to be over ... or allegedly her boyfriend’s former engagement, Katie Holmes is already seeing some major drama in her new relationship. This week, the “Dawson’s Creek” alum went public with her brand new beau, Emilio Vitolo Jr., a New York City-based chef on whom she was spotted passionately kissing during a dinner date Monday.  The new couple has been seen out and about together in recent days, but it’s not exactly clear when they linked up. Vitolo, however, left a comment on a July post on Holmes’ Instagram, suggesting that they might have been in each other’s orbit for some time now. The relationship is Holmes’ first since splitting with Jamie Foxx in May 2019 after six (mostly secret) years together following her marriage to Tom Cruise. But apparen...

As states lift restaurant restrictions, CDC report links dining out to increased COVID-19 risk – NBC News

Dining out raises the risk of contracting COVID-19 more than other activities, such as shopping or going to a salon, according to a report published Thursday by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The findings come as many states consider the safest ways to reopen businesses, especially restaurants. On Wednesday, for example, New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced that limited indoor dining will be allowed in New York City starting Sept. 30. Full coverage of the coronavirus outbreak The CDC report included 314 people who had COVID-19 symptoms and were subsequently tested for the virus; about half tested positive. Researchers then asked all participants about their social activities during the two weeks prior to their COVID-19 test. The participants lived in states with varying...

Teachers in at least five states have died with coronavirus since fall semester started | TheHill – The Hill

Teachers in at least five states have died from COVID-19 since the fall semester started, The Washington Post reported Thursday.  At least six teachers across Iowa, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma and South Carolina have died since early August as students return for the school year. It is unknown whether these teachers became infected at school, but several attempted to quarantine to avoid infecting other students and educators.  Special education teacher AshLee DeMarinis died on Sunday after showing symptoms four days after the start of school for John Evans Middle School in Potosi, Mo. The 34-year-old, who suffered from asthma, spent three weeks on a ventilator in the hospital, the Post reported.  In Columbia, S.C., third grade teacher Demetria “Demi” Bannister from Windsor ...

ESPNs Monday Night Football won’t shy away from protests: ‘We don’t see social justice movement as political’ – USA TODAY

ESPN's new "Monday Night Football" crew and other network staff members were part of a conference call Wednesday to discuss the upcoming season. Among the topics: The possibility of protests during the national anthem and how "MNF" would address that during a live broadcast. Stephanie Druley, executive vice president for event and studio production, said ESPN’s policy is to cover the anthem when it is newsworthy, and that the crew will not shy away from covering protests about social justice. “We don’t see the social justice movement as political; it’s social justice,” Druley said. Druley said she was unsure whether "MNF" would cover the performance of the national anthem throughout the season but guaranteed it would be covered when the Tennessee Titans visit the Denver Broncos.  The "MNF...
