Ab8 COVID-19 Drug Breakthrough: Tiny Antibody Component Completely Neutralizes the SARS-CoV-2 Virus – SciTechDaily

Wei Li, Ph.D., of Pitt, demonstrates a step in the process of obtaining a potential drug against COVID-19. Credit: UPMC University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine scientists have isolated the smallest biological molecule to date that completely and specifically neutralizes the SARS-CoV-2 virus, which is the cause of COVID-19. This antibody component, which is 10 times smaller than a full-sized antibody, has been used to construct a drug — known as Ab8 — for potential use as a therapeutic and prophylactic against SARS-CoV-2. The researchers report today (September 14, 2020) in the journal Cell that Ab8 is highly effective in preventing and treating SARS-CoV-2 infection in mice and hamsters. Its tiny size not only increases its potential for diffusion in tissues to better neutraliz...

Censoring Scott Atlas Should Be The Last Straw For Big Techs Censorship – The Federalist

If the coronavirus pandemic has proved anything it is that most Americans and their leaders are more concerned with their safety than with preserving their freedom. Six months into the coronavirus era, most, though not all Americans may be willing to continue granting extraordinary powers to the government to deal with a threat to public safety. But the questions that they should also be considering is whether that same deference should be extended to big tech companies to censor discourse about the pandemic and what, if anything, can they do to prevent international monopolies from shutting down free speech. The latest instance of censorship is so extreme and arbitrary that concern over the willingness of companies like Google, YouTube, Facebook, and Twitter to shut down speech the...

Marc Anthonys 3.0 Is First Salsa Album to Earn Diamante Certification – Billboard

It was a risky album that became a global sensation. Back in 2013, Marc Anthony released 3.0, his first salsa album in a decade, a risky release at a time when tropical music had already begun to wane in the face of reggaeton. The risk has paid off, handsomely. This week, 3.0 became the first ever salsa album in history to be certified “Diamante,” the RIAA’s highest certification for a Latin album, for shipments of over 600,000 copies in the U.S. alone. It’s only the latest accomplishment for an album that, in 2013, became the top-selling release of the year, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The set was propelled by the hit single “Vivir Mi Vida,” which spent 18 weeks at No. 1 on the Hot Latin Songs chart, becoming the first tropical single in a decade to top the chart (...

Who Pays for Covid-19 Medical Care? That Depends on How (or if) You Are Insured – The Wall Street Journal

Across America, bills for Covid-19 treatment are coming due, and some patients are paying large out-of-pocket fees despite a federal safety net set up to help them avoid such financial surprises. Early in the coronavirus pandemic, Congress formed an emergency system to ensure free testing for the virus and to help uninsured Americans avoid big hospital bills for Covid-19 treatment. At the same time, most large insurance companies waived cost-sharing agreements for Covid-19 patients, limiting out-of-pocket costs for holders...

Wisconsin Democrats needed a fundraising boost. And the message from the original cast of "The Princess Bride" and their guests? "As you wish."
