Weekend Box Office: Unhinged heralds the reopening of theaters – The A.V. Club

Russell Crowe in UnhingedPhoto: Solstice Pictures Boy, that was a scary 20-something weeks, huh? That’s how long it’s been since we did a real check-in on how much money new releases had made at the weekend box office. Onward made $10 million, something that we described as a “religious guitar movie” made $9.5 million, and Vin Diesel’s now-doomed-to-be-an-answer-to-a-trivia-question Bloodshot made $9.3 million. Since then, despite our insistence that people should not be going out unnecessarily so we can hopefully end this pandemic sooner rather than later (a hilarious thing to look back on now that it’s fucking August), the coronavirus did indeed get worse and worse and worse and then pretty much everything in the country was shut down for an extended period of time… until—with absolu...

CBS anchor avoids ex-FBI lawyers guilty plea in Durham probe during Comey interview – Fox News

Former FBI Director James Comey revived his attacks on President Trump during Sunday's installment of CBS' "Face the Nation" -- but was not asked about a recent guilty plea by ex-FBI lawyer Kevin Clinesmith. Last week, Clinesmith pleaded guilty to making a false statement in the first criminal case arising from Connecticut U.S. Attorney John Durham's review of the investigation into links between Russia and the 2016 Trump campaign. His misconduct took place during Comey's tenure as FBI director. Clinesmith's plea went unmentioned by "Face the Nation" moderator Margaret Brennan. She did, however, ask Comey whether he thought he was a "target" of Durham's investigation. A woman linked to the Coronavirus outbreak at a wedding reception in Maine has died – CNN

The woman, who wasn't named, is linked to a Coronavirus outbreak that the Maine Centers for Disease Control is currently investigating from a large social gathering held on August 7. "We are sorry to share that this patient passed away early [Friday] afternoon," Robert Peterson, CEO of Millinocket Regional Hospital, said in a statement on Friday. "Our thoughts and sympathies are with her family as they cope with this difficult loss." This is the first death linked to the outbreak that stemmed from a wedding ceremony and reception held in the Millinocket area. On Thursday, officials said that there were 32 positive cases associated with the gatherings. The hospital added that this was their only inpatient admission linked to this outbreak. All other individuals who tested positive wer...

Children born at high altitudes may be stunted in growth and development, study finds – CNN

This was true even if the children were born into "ideal-home environments" defined as having good health coverage, higher living conditions and highly educated mothers, the study found, which meant stunting was unlikely to be due to common risk factors such as poor diet and disease. Children living in ideal home environments grew at rates deemed standard by the World Health Organization until they lived at around 500 meters (1,650 feet) above sea level, the study found. At that altitude and higher, children's height-for-age scores began to decrease. At levels of 1,500 meters, or approximately 5,000 feet, above sea level, children were "born at shorter length and remained on a lower growth trajectory" than children who lived in cities at lower sea levels, according to the study published ...

Jerry Seinfeld blasts Manhattan comedy club owner for saying ‘NYC is dead forever’ – Fox News

Jerry Seinfeld blasted the owner of Stand Up N.Y. on Monday after he claimed “NYC is dead forever” as a result of the coronavirus pandemic. The “Seinfeld” star referred to the club’s owner, James Altucher, as a “putz” in a scathing New York Times op-ed and gave a passionate argument about “the true greatness of New York City.” “The last thing we need in the thick of so many challenges is some putz on LinkedIn wailing and whimpering, ‘Everyone’s gone! I want 2019 back!’” Seinfeld, 66, wrote tagging the post, but not acknowledging Altucher by name. Sonya Deville Thanks Vince McMahon, WWE Roster Update On Deville, Post-Match Video From SummerSlam – Wrestling Inc.

WWE has already moved Sonya Deville from the SmackDown roster to the Alumni roster. The move was made earlier this afternoon. As noted, Deville lost a "No DQ, Loser Leaves WWE" match to Mandy Rose at SummerSlam last night. The match was originally scheduled to be a Hair vs. Hair match, but word is that the match was changed because of the recent attempted kidnapping at Deville's home as her lawyers recommended that she does not show up to court looking different or anything like that. Dave Meltzer noted on Wrestling Observer Radio that her lawyers did not want her hair cut, which is why WWE changed the stipulation. As seen above, WWE released post-show footage of Deville responding to a camera man who asked how she was taking the loss to Rose. "Do not call me that ever again," De...

As L.A. County sees lower coronavirus transmission, health officer says county must learn from July’s surge – KTLA Los Angeles

As Los Angeles County begins to see less coronavirus transmission and potential reopenings on the horizon, officials warned that the county must learn from its past. “If we can maintain this lower transmission, it means that we could begin to think about schools, and more businesses reopening, or some day moving their operations back indoors,” Health Officer Muntu Davis said at a news conference. “But what I’d like to stress is the importance of all of us learning from our recent past, and the spikes in cases, hospitalizations, as well as deaths in our community that we experienced in July.” Seeing coronavirus number stabilize in late May and early June, officials reopened more spaces previously shuttered to curb the spread of the virus. The reopenings were followed...
