Quibi forgot how to Quibi when it debuted its latest ‘film’ – The Verge

Quibi means “quick bite.” Seriously, that’s the meaning behind the name. The entire idea behind the streaming service is that it should fit into your daily schedule, on your phone, on the go, in chunks that take under 10 minutes to watch. Every single show is filmed in a format that supports portrait and landscape viewing at the same time, encouraging you to flip your phone around. So you might be surprised to learn: Quibi just screened one of its entire shows, stitched together as a feature film, at a drive-in theater. The Hollywood Reporter says that The Americana theater in Los Angeles played host to the dinner-and-a-movie spectacle, which saw Quibi’s thriller series The Stranger played in a way it was absolutely not meant to be played before. As series creator Veena Sud...

Coronavirus: Obesity increases risks from Covid-19 – BBC News

Image copyright Getty Images Being obese doubles the risk of hospital treatment from Covid-19 and increases the risk of dying by nearly 50%, a global analysis suggests. Obesity makes other diseases such as diabetes and high blood pressure more likely, the US researchers say. Along with a weakened immune system, this can make these individuals more vulnerable to severe Covid-19. They also warn a vaccine against coronavirus could be less effective in obese people. This is based on the fact that flu vaccines don't work as well in those with a body mass index (BMI) of over 30. The team, from the University of North Carolina, looked at data from 75 studies from around the world for...

COVID-19 reinfections reported in the Netherlands, Belgium – New York Post

Two coronavirus patients in Europe have been reinfected with COVID-19 in a confirmed development one scientist called “not good news,” according to a report Wednesday. One of the patients, from Belgium, suffered mild symptoms after catching COVID-19 in March and then again in June, health officials said Tuesday, according to Sky News. A second patient — an older person from the Netherlands with a weakened immune system — was also reinfected, the outlet reported. The new cases, confirmed through rigorous genetic testing, revealed a slightly different strain of the virus in both people the second time around, raising concerns among some scientists about immunity. “I think that in the coming days that we will see other similar stories. These could be exceptions, but do exist....

Everything we know about coronavirus reinfections – New York Post

At least three people this week were infected with COVID-19 a second time, throwing into question what we know about immunity to the deadly virus. While reinfections have been reported in the past, including some in South Korea in May, it later emerged that the cases were likely a result of false positives during testing. But the new cases are far more credible — and more concerning to some scientists. The new cases were confirmed with rigorous genetic testing and also revealed a slightly different strain of the virus, which one scientist called “not good news.” Where are there confirmed cases of COVID-19 reinfection? In the Netherlands, an older person with a weakened immune system was reinfected with the coronavirus, health officials confirmed Tuesday, according to Sky...

WHO says its rare, but possible, that people who have recovered from the coronavirus can get it again – CNBC

Though rare, it is possible that people who have recovered from Covid-19 could be reinfected, as a recent Hong Kong study suggests, the World Health Organization said Wednesday.  On Monday, researchers released a study that found what appears to be the first documented case of Covid-19 reinfection, in a 33-year-old man. The man was first infected in late March and then again roughly 4½ months later, according to STAT News.  "It doesn't mean that it's happening a lot; we know that it's possible," Maria Van Kerkhove, head of the WHO's emerging diseases and zoonosis unit, said during a live Q&A session. "It is something that we knew could be possible based on our experience with other human coronaviruses."  While much is still unknown about SARS-CoV-2, the virus that cau...
