Trump downplays COVID-19s mortality rate in US | TheHill – The Hill

President TrumpDonald John TrumpBiden says his faith is 'bedrock foundation of my life' after Trump claim Coronavirus talks on life support as parties dig in, pass blame Ohio governor tests negative in second coronavirus test MORE has repeatedly claimed that the U.S. has one of the lowest COVID-19 mortality rates anywhere in the world, even though the nation has recorded more deaths from the coronavirus than any other country. The U.S. also has a mortality rate per 100,000 about twice that of Canada. While the U.S. rate is lower than Spain, the United Kingdom and Italy per 100,000 people, it is higher than such nations as Germany, France and the Netherlands. But Trump is not focused on those numbers. Rather than the mortality rate, Trump has been fixated on the percentage of p...

Coronavirus infections among younger populations are skyrocketing, WHO says – CNN

Early in the outbreak, health experts stressed that older adults were most at risk for the virus that has infected more than 4.8 million people in the United States, but new data from the World Health Organization shows that most cases -- by far -- are reported in people ages 25 to 64. The proportion of cases in teens and young adults has gone up six-fold, and in very young children and babies the proportion has increased seven-fold, WHO said. The increase might be explained by broader testing, greater detection of milder cases and shifting demographics of hotspots, but "a rise in risky behavior after easing of public health and social measures" is also to blame, WHO said. "This is a disease everyone should take seriously. Please watch out for each other," Dr. Lawton Davis, the Health Dire...

Watermelon Gazpacho Recipe

How to Make Watermelon Gazpacho at Home We were having dinner at Radnor Valley Country Club a couple of weeks ago and they were serving this incredible watermelon gazpacho recipe as a starter to a prix fix meal. It was one of those perfect summer evenings. We first went for a swim with our friends, changed and enjoyed dinner on their back patio overlooking the pool. The tables were spaced for social distancing and it was nice to be out for a meal for the first time since the pandemic. They even had live music from the Bourbon Tabernacle Band, a two person group originally from Kentucky. What is Gazpacho? Gazpacho is a cold soup that is thought to have originated in Andalusia, a region in southern Spain.  It has influences from both Greece and Rome. Originally, it was ...

I’m Thinking of Ending Things trailer: Charlie Kaufman made Meet the Parents horror – Polygon

Charlie Kaufman has a lot on his mind. A lot about the mind, on his mind. He minds the mind, then mines the mind for stories about what goes on in our minds. He’s a mindful miner of mines, if you will. Kaufman took us inside the head of “MALKOVICH” in Being John Malkovich, let his stream of consciousness flow by writing himself into Adaptation, erased Jim Carrey’s memories in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, turned one man’s anxiety into an alternate universe in his directorial debut Synecdoche, New York, then staged an existential puppet show with Anomalisa. Now he’s back with a brand new movie, and wouldn’t you know it, the action drops us right into the unspoken narration of our main character, who feels trapped in a struggling relationship. Produced by Netflix, i’m think...

Man wakes from COVID-19 coma to learn virus killed his mother and her partner – New York Post

A coronavirus-stricken man in Scotland has emerged from a three-week coma and recovered – only to learn that his mother and her partner died of the disease, according to a report. Scott Miller, 43, of Edinburgh, shared an apartment with his 76-year-old mother, Norma, who suffered from dementia, and her 69-year-old partner, the BBC reported. “When I was upstairs in ICU fighting for my life, my mum was in a ward downstairs, basically passing away,” he told the news outlet. Miller said he first noticed something was amiss when he was unable to get his mother back on her feet after she took a tumble March 21 in the apartment where they all lived together. She was later diagnosed with COVID-19 at the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary, according to the BBC. Before the end of the week,...

In Canada, obesity will no longer be determined by weight alone – CNN

The physicians, who are part of the non-profit Obesity Canada and the Canadian Association of Bariatric Physicians and Surgeons, believe doctors have not been treating patients with obesity the way they should be. In their view, weight discrimination impedes treatment and medicine has made little room for body positivity. Obesity, they argue, should be defined by a person's health, rather than just their weight. By that definition, people would only be diagnosed as obese if their body weight affects their physical health or mental wellbeing, said Dr. Arya Sharma, professor of medicine at the University of Alberta, Edmonton, and scientific director of Obesity Canada, who co-wrote the guidelines. "This is a huge departure from this notion that you can step on a scale and diagnose ob...

My baby girl is gone."
