Lake Tahoe is a popular year-round destination in the Sierra Nevada mountains on the California-Nevada border. The lake itself is known for its sandy beaches and water recreation, while the surrounding mountains are popular for hiking, cycling and skiing, depending on the season. While Lake Tahoe has historically been popular for vacation homes, an increasing number of people have been moving their main residence to the area, thanks in part to the proliferation of high-speed internet, local real estate experts said. 97,000 children reportedly test positive for coronavirus in two weeks as schools gear up for instruction – CBS News

Nearly 100,000 children tested positive for the coronavirus in the last two weeks of July, a new report from the American Academy of Pediatrics finds. Just over 97,000 children tested positive for the coronavirus from July 16 to July 30, according to the association. Out of almost 5 million reported COVID-19 cases in the U.S., CBS News' Michael George reports that the group found that more than 338,000 were children.  Vanderbilt University's Dr. Tina Hartert hopes increased testing of children will help determine what role they play in transmission, as school districts around the country return to some form of school. She is leading a government-funded study that saw DIY testing kits sent to some 2,000 families. "The kits are shipped to the families, they are taught how to collect these s...

Is COVID-19 making Black birth more complicated? – CBS News

Anna Jackman was six months pregnant when COVID-19 hit. The 36-year-old Long Island resident had made plans for welcoming her first child. Plans for her sister and husband to attend the delivery, plans for a doula to be with her, plans for how she wanted the birth to go. "I had the natural concerns as a Black woman," she told CBS News. "Am I going to be pressured into certain things? Am I going to be protected?" But the pandemic disrupted Jackman's plans, just as it has for thousands of pregnant women across the United States. Jackman feared contracting the virus, but she was also concerned that the burden of the virus would compromise the care she received during pregnancy and delivery. Jackman delivered her baby in June after spending months considering the potential worst-case s...

New trailers: Kajillionaire, Zola, Ratched, and more – The Verge

Back when the pandemic was just getting started in the US, I spent a couple nights watching a pair of Taika Waititi films I hadn’t seen: Hunt for the Wilderpeople and What We Do in the Shadows. They were the perfect kind of light, no-stress movies for the moment. That’s really the kind of experience that Waititi excels at making. His movies are filled with silly, try-hard characters you can’t help but care for, but he never really puts them in harm’s way. They’re constantly blustering their way through a ludicrous scenario of their own making, and it’s usually quite clear how they can find their way out. That makes the stakes low but leaves plenty of room for the characters’ big personalities to shine through. Check out nine trailers from this week (and last week because I was off...

Photo credit: Steve Granitz - Getty ImagesFrom Cosmopolitan Selling Sunset season 3 has officially landed on Netflix, and we can safely say it isn't short of any drama. One huge topic covered by the season is Chrishell Stause's divorce from Justin Hartley, which fans saw a teaser of at the end of season 2. This series picks up where it left off, following Chrishell as she deals with the divorce, but her ex Justin Hartley is reportedly not happy with the way the split was portrayed.
