New CDC guidance says Covid-19 rates in children steadily increasing – CNN

"So if I'm put into a classroom of 30 or more kids, it's a small room, there's one exit, the ventilation isn't all that great for schools," Arizona teacher Matt Chicci, who quit his job, told CNN. "It's not a good situation." While some US officials -- including the President -- have downplayed the risk coronavirus positions on children, the new CDC guidance notes children can develop severe illness and complications, even if that risk is lower compared to adults. The rate of hospitalizations among children is increasing, the guidance says, and among those hospitalized, one in three children is admitted to intensive care -- the same as adults. In the US, more than 5.3 million people have been infected with the virus and at least 168,446 have died, according to Johns Hopkins Universi...

WWE SmackDown results, recap, grades: Braun Strowman ends uneven show by attacking Alexa Bliss – CBSSports.com

With only two editions of SmackDown to go before the WWE SummerSlam pay-per-view, Friday night's show saw competing focuses of ongoing attacks by Retribution and the continuing issues between universal champion Braun Strowman and "The Fiend" Bray Wyatt. The result was an unbalanced and unfocused show that ended on a shocking note with Strowman attacking longtime friend and former mixed tag partner Alexa Bliss. In the show's final segment, Strowman came to the ring to demand The Fiend come to the ring to face him, only to be confronted by Bliss, who had been attacked and taken by The Fiend two weeks ago. Bliss demanded Strowman snap out of whatever was wrong with him -- and whatever caused him to claim last week to "not give a damn" about her -- before slapping him. S...

Hidalgo County child dies from COVID-19 – Monitor

Hidalgo County reported its first child death among the 20 residents who died of COVID-19 on Friday. The child, a girl from Pharr, is listed as being between the ages of 0 and 19 as the county declined to disclose more details citing state and federal privacy laws. “The death of this child reaffirms that children — and no age group — are not immune from the devastating impact of this deadly virus,” Hidalgo County Judge Richard F. Cortez stated in a news release. “It is imperative for us to all work together to prevent further spread of this disease. This death hits home the reality that COVID-19 does not spare even the youngest members of our community.” The county also reported 531 new positive cases, bringing their total number to 21,806 and their active cases to 5,0...

Study Says Obesity Raises Risk of Death from Covid-19 Among Men – The New York Times

The coronavirus has been an unpredictable foe from the start. It triggers silent or barely perceptible infections in some individuals, while in others it sets off a cascade of complications that overwhelm the body and lead to death. Why some patients sail through the disease and others are felled by it is a question that has bedeviled doctors. Older age and chronic health conditions like high blood pressure and heart disease are known to increase the risk of severe Covid-19. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention also lists extreme obesity as a high risk. But is excess weight in and of itself to blame? Or all of the health problems that accompany obesity, like metabolic disorders and breathing problems? A new study points to obesity itself as a culprit. An analysis of thousa...

"Say be quiet for two minutes and say please." "Please be quiet for two minutes. Thank you!" Kim said with a sarcastic grin.  As the cosmetics entrepreneur used the product to conceal a bruise on her arm she received after getting her blood drawn, she told North,  "You said you'd be quiet for two minutes." But this international crisis continues, and Americans are having trouble adjusting to the strain of our new reality. New psychological data taken during the pandemic shows the nation's mental health is languishing, according to data reported this week as part of the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Suicidal ideation is up among young people since last year, with as many as one in four people ages 18 through 24 having seriously considered suicide in the 30 days preceding the survey, according to the report, in which researchers surveyed 5,412 adults in the US between June 24 and 30.
