Music helps us through all things: Metallica rocks virtual concert at drive-in theaters – USA TODAY

FARMINGDALE, N.Y. — Only in 2020 would you see Metallica play at an abandoned amusement park.  On Saturday night, the raging heavy-metal icons broadcast a show to hundreds of drive-in and outdoor theaters across the U.S. and Canada, as part of the Encore Drive-In Nights series, which has also aired performances by country stars Blake Shelton and Garth Brooks this summer.  We watched the concert special at Adventureland, a fairground-style Long Island staple that's temporarily closed because of the coronavirus pandemic. Two small screens were erected in the park's expansive parking lot, where a shuttered roller coaster and Ferris wheel loomed overhead. Pint-sized train cars that normally circle the park now sat dormant, as dozens of people in Metallica T-shirts lined the train tracks waiti...

Maines Big Moose Inn admits bad head count at COVID superspreading wedding event – New York Post

Maine’s “Big Moose Inn” now knows it made a big, coronavirus-super spreading Moose-stake. The campground and catering hall has admitted it screwed up its head-count when it allowed a restriction-violating mob to celebrate an Aug. 7 wedding — a reception now linked to at least 123 people contracting COVID-19. One died from the disease. In a statement obtained by the local Pressherald.com, the venue in the wooded town of Millinocket conceded that it had misinterpreted state guidelines limiting indoor events to 50 people. The Big Moose Inn thought the limit meant only 50 people per individual room, the statement said. So the venue allowed 65 people to attend, splitting them into two rooms. When additional Big Moose Inn guests from that night were factored in, the venue he...

That’s especially true now that infectious disease experts say the virus was likely already spreading before cities started to lock down and put social distancing orders in place. “As the weeks progress, it’s become evident that this is a virus that was widespread throughout our country, particularly in more populated areas, sooner than we thought,” says William Schaffner, M.D., an infectious disease specialist and professor at the Vanderbilt University School of Medicine. So, could you have had COVID-19 without realizing it? It’s possible. “Most people who have coronavirus have an uncomplicated case of infection, a...

Secret weapon for dieters: Consuming your own fecal microbiome may help keep off the pounds – Study Finds

Doctor: “This study is the first of its kind to prove in humans that preservation of an ‘ideal’ gut microbial composition can be used at a later time point to achieve metabolic benefits.” BEER-SHEVA, Israel — Over the years, we’ve seen a slew of outlandish ways that dieters try to facilitate and maintain weight loss. A new theory from Ben-Gurion University of the Negev surely takes the proverbial cake. Researchers say that taking frozen microbiome capsules created from one’s own feces after dieting may help prevent lost pounds from returning. The concept takes the old adage “you are what you eat” to an entirely new level. Yet scientists say there’s good science behind the cringeworthy capsule. The key, however, is using this unconventional method after already losing weight. As many...

Bella Thorne responded to the controversy over her OnlyFans debut, apologizing and explaining that she had intended to “advocate for something bigger than [herself].” Thorne, who made over $2 million on the platform and drew criticism from sex-workers who rely on the site as a primary source of income, wrote that she had “wanted to bring attention to the site, the more people on the site the more likely of a chance to normalize the stigmas.” She explained that her original goal had been to “remove the stigma behind sex, sex work, and the negativity that surrounds the word SEX itself by bringing a mainstream face to it,” as well as to “help bring more faces to the site to create more revenue for content creators on the site.” Thorne continued, “Again ...
