CAA Braces for Layoffs and Furloughs of More Than 350 Staffers – Variety

CAA is about to implement significant layoffs and furloughs this week that will amount to as much as a double-digit reduction in the workforce at the Hollywood talent agency, insiders tell Variety. Cuts are believed to be coming across the board, with about 90 agents and executives on staff facing pink slips and 275 support staffers facing furloughs in numerous departments at the agency and across offices in Los Angeles, Nashville, New York and London. CAA called the cuts “an unprecedented and painful moment” for the agency and said the decision was the result of cost-cutting moves spurred by pandemic-induced disruptions in entertainment. “CAA began working remotely earlier this year due to the pandemic. Everyone at the company participated in reducing compensation with the ho...

Kanye West pushes to appear on NJ ballot amid marriage crisis – Daily Mail

Kanye West has submitted petitions with 1,327 signatures to get on the ballot for New Jersey in his latest bid for the White House, the same day he was in apparent crisis his wife following a disastrous campaign rally in South Carolina on July 19.  The rapper exceeded the requirement of at least 800 signatures and submitted on deadline day in order to appear as an independent candidate in the Garden State, TMZ reported. Although it was believed West is running under the Birthday Party, the term 'slogan pending' appears on his state document alongside the other independent parties that have signed up to challenge President Donald Trump on November 3.  Those parties include the Alliance Party, Constitution Party, Green Party, Libertarian Party, Socialism and Liberation and Unity Party Ameri...

Coronavirus: Researchers identify six different ‘types’ of COVID-19 – The Mercury News

Symptoms developed within the first week of the onset of a COVID-19 infection can determine the likelihood of a patient requiring serious medical attention by the end of week two, according to researchers at King’s College in London. The new study, which wasn’t peer-reviewed but was replicated in an independent data set, could help doctors identify the patients who require care and treat them earlier, possibly saving lives. It showed a wide variety of outcomes and symptoms, some of which hadn’t previously been strongly connected to COVID-19. “These findings have important implications for care and monitoring of people who are most vulnerable to severe COVID-19,” Dr. Claire Steves, of King’s College, said in a release. “If you can predict who these people are at day five, you have time...

Lake Zurich COVID-19 cases linked to Fourth of July gatherings – WGN TV Chicago

LAKE ZURICH, Ill. —  A large number of social gatherings around the Fourth of July may have fueled more than 70 new COVID-19 infections in the Northwest suburbs. Investigators used contact tracing to make their determination after 73 people tested positive for coronavirus. Those people include students and adults in Lake Zurich as well as surrounding communities. The Lake County Health Department says they are experiencing difficulty in getting people to respond to phone calls and texts from contact tracers. Officials urge anyone who has received a call from the department to return the call as soon as possible. The number of positive cases are expected to rise in the days ahead. The outbreak has already canceled summer sports camps at Lake Zurich High School. ...

These womens coronavirus symptoms havent gone away. Doctors say its just anxiety. – NBC News

The frightening symptoms began in early March, when Ailsa Court of Portland, Oregon, suspects she caught the coronavirus from someone at work. More than four months later, she still has shortness of breath, achiness in her lungs, and a strange tingling in her calves. But doctors have downplayed Court’s concerns as her health problems have dragged on. At one point, her primary care doctor suggested that perhaps she was just “stressed because of the economy,” she said. And during a visit to an urgent care center in May — when she feared she might be having a stroke or other neurological problem because she was having memory loss and a crippling migraine, in addition to chest tightness and numbness in her legs — a physician rolled his eyes at her, Court, 35, said. Her issues were nothing m...

Florida sets grim death toll record, while trailer truck outside funeral home raises COVID-19 fears – NBC News

Florida set another grim record Tuesday with nearly 200 more COVID-19 deaths recorded overnight, but in recent days an ominous sight outside a funeral home has been sending a shiver through a Miami-area town –- a refrigerated trailer for storing bodies. Rumors that the corpses of coronavirus victims were being stored there -- and unfounded fears that the bodies could spread the disease -- have sparked several protests in recent days outside the San Jose Funeral Home in Hialeah. “We went to the funeral home to ask about it and they told us that they were at capacity and that they had COVID-19 infected bodies that they were storing in that container,” Liliana Vázquez Acosta, who lives near the funeral home and who first sounded the alarm, told The Miami Herald. Six refrigerator trailers s...

Amber Heard speaks out on incredibly painful Depp court case as trial ends – Page Six

An emotional Amber Heard spoke outside a UK court Tuesday of the “incredibly painful” case that picked through the “most traumatic and intimate details” of her volatile marriage to Johnny Depp. As the explosive three-week trial came to an end, the 34-year-old “Justice League” actress said she stood by her testimony in the libel case that the Hollywood superstar had beaten her more than a dozen times during their relationship. Standing outside London’s High Court, she was booed and heckled with calls of “Justice for Johnny” — while Depp was cheered and handed flowers as he left with a large smile almost an hour later. The 34-year-old actress suggested that the case — in which Depp sued The Sun newspaper for calling him a “wife beater” — was a waste of UK taxpayer’s money whil...
