Pink Floyd’s David Gilmour Shares First Solo Song in Five Years, ‘Yes, I Have Ghosts’: Listen – Billboard

Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour returns with “Yes, I Have Ghosts,” his first new song in five years. It's a gentle, acoustic number with flourishes of strings. On it, Gilmour sings, "Yes, I have ghosts, not all of them dead/ Making dust of my dreams, spinning round and around, around in my head." “Ghosts” isn’t so much a solo tune as a Gilmour family effort. The song accompanies the release of his wife Holly Samson's audiobook for her coming-of-age novel A Theatre for Dreamers, and features daughter Romany on vocals. The audiobook format “has so much untapped potential,” comments Gilmour in a statement, “and I am surprised more musicians have not creatively collaborated with authors, narrators and audiobook producers in this way before. The two worlds seem to seamlessly l...

Hugh Downs, genial presence on TV news and game shows, dies – The Associated Press

NEW YORK (AP) — Hugh Downs, the genial, versatile broadcaster who became one of television’s most familiar and welcome faces with more than 15,000 hours on news, game and talk shows, has died at age 99. Downs died of natural causes at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Wednesday, said his great-niece, Molly Shaheen. “The Guinness Book of World Records” recognized Downs as having logged more hours in front of the camera than any television personality until Regis Philbin passed him in 2004. He worked on NBC’s “Today” and “Tonight” shows, the game show “Concentration,” co-hosted the ABC magazine show “20/20” with Barbara Walters and the PBS series “Over Easy” and “Live From Lincoln Center.” His signature sign-off at the end of “20/20” told viewers: “We’re in touch, so you be in touch.” “I...

Australia Locks Down 300,000 in Melbourne Area After Coronavirus Surge – The New York Times

MELBOURNE, Australia — Ring Mayar spends all day knocking on doors in the western suburbs of Melbourne, asking residents if they have a cough, a fever or chills. Even if they do not, he encourages them to get tested for the coronavirus, as the authorities race to catch up with a string of outbreaks that is threatening to recast Australia’s success story in controlling the spread. “It’s quite daunting,” said Mr. Mayar, the president of the South Sudanese Community Association in the state of Victoria, who has been volunteering in one of the largely immigrant communities where cases are surging. The rise in infections — Victoria reported 77 new cases Thursday, the most since March — has driven home the outsized impact of the coronavirus on communities in which working-class immigrants and ...

Orange County inflated its coronavirus test numbers by mistakenly including antibody tests, officials say – Los Angeles Times

The total number of COVID-19 tests conducted in Orange County was mistakenly inflated for more than a month beginning in late April in data released to the public, an error that may have painted a rosier picture of the pandemic than the reality in the region. For roughly five weeks, county staff incorrectly added 30,000 serology tests to its “cumulative tests to date” figure, which made it appear that more testing for the virus was happening than was the case. The cumulative testing figure reported by the county is supposed to be a count of how many diagnostic tests — which detect whether someone was infected with the virus at the moment of testing — were conducted countywide, Dr. Clayton Chau, director of the Orange County Health Care Agency and the county’s interim health officer, sai...

Scene Change

Spaces Text by Shraddha Jahagirdar-Saxena In small but hopefully significant ways, I am trying to make a difference to our surroundings through how I run my office. While initiating several changes that are required to create and manage a sustainable workspace at Chrome Pictures, the toughest battle continues to be the tuning of every employee’s mindset. I believe this is essential, because, as the Greek philosopher Plato pointed out centuries ago, “Reality is created by the mind…we can change our reality by changing our mind.” Employees must understand the importance of maintaining a balanced environment. This can be difficult when our actions often don’t have an immediate impact or any direct implications. So, it is necessary to ensu...

WWE filmed two endings for next week’s main event at The Great American Bash, says developmental wrestler – Wrestling News

On Thursday afternoon, word spread on social media about the main event for next week’s WWE NXT: The Great American Bash being spoiled by developmental wrestler Saurav Gurjar. Click here for the photo that everyone was talking about today. However, another developmental wrestler seems to be hinting at a second ending that was taped for next week’s show so what was posted today may not be what it seems. Ezekwesiri “EJ” Nduka tweeted, “We don’t run a sloppy shop. Two endings. Two stories.
