SALT LAKE CITY — Utah’s number of COVID-19 cases increased by 185 on Monday, with no new deaths and nearly 5,000 more vaccinations reported, according to the Utah Department of Health.
The new case numbers were the result of 2,519 more COVID-19 tests conducted. The rolling seven-day average number of positive cases per day is now at 398, according to the health department. That figure has remained between 396.3 and 406.3 new cases per day since April began.
The positive test rate per day for that time period calculated with the “people over people” method is now 7.4% following Monday’s numbers update. The positive test rate per day for that time period calculated with the “test over test” method is now 3.7%.
There are now 122 COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized in Utah, state data shows. Of those, 61 were hospitalized in intensive care units. Data show both referral center and statewide ICU utilization figures were percentages that would trigger a warning.
A total of 1,708,002 vaccine doses have been administered in the state, up from 1,703,065 Sunday. The health department reported that a little more than 1.1 million Utahns have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and more than 680,000 Utahns are fully vaccinated.
Monday’s totals give Utah 390,289 total confirmed cases since March 2020, including 8,825 currently active COVID-19 cases in the state. There have also been 15,770 total hospitalizations and 2,159 total deaths from the disease over that time period.
The numbers reported Monday indicate less than a 1% increase in positive cases since Sunday. Of the more people tested for COVID-19 in Utah so far, about 1.6% have tested positive for COVID-19.
Utah Gov. Spencer Cox is scheduled to provide a COVID-19 update during his monthly news conference with PBS Utah at 10 a.m. Thursday.
This week’s free COVID-19 testing sites
Earlier Monday, the state health department announced several locations where free testing for COVID-19 will be held in the state. The health department selects testing sites based on higher positivity rates, fewer tests conducted, untreated wastewater and other coronavirus surveillance data.
The department announced sites in nine counties this week where testing will be conducted either through TestUtah or the Utah Department of Health/Utah National Guard mobile test team. People can register in advance for TestUtah sites here or Utah Department of Health/Utah National Guard here.
