Ed Sheeran has revealed he once thought he was gay because he was so in touch with his feminine side.

The singer, 30, is a big fan of Britney Spears and musicals which led him to think he wasn’t straight when he was younger. 

He told Dutch podcast Man, Man, Man: ‘I have a definite feminine side, to the point that when I was a kid I thought I was gay for a bit.

‘I definitely have a big feminine side. I love musical theatre, I love pop music, I love Britney Spears.

‘My masculine side probably stops at drinking beer and watching football.’

He added: ‘I am not a hugely masculine person anyway. I am not a car guy. I like a nice car, but I’m not a car guy.’

Ed is now father to one-year-old daughter Lyra with wife Cherry Seaborn, 29, and he says his relationship changed his perception on life.

He explained: ‘My wife is super pro women, femininity and as soon as we started dating my life shifted to that.

‘She plays in a female hockey team, we hang out with them all the time. It’s very much women empowerment, she works a very high level job at the top of her field.

‘Before Lyra was born it was kind of that but now Lyra’s born it’s even more that.’

Meanwhile, Ed recently spoke about his fears for Lyra as she grows up in the spotlight.

The Shape of You hitmaker worries his fame will have an impact on his firstborn’s lifestyle and relationships.  

‘I think there’s gonna be a lot of difficult conversations to have with her early on about how people are going to treat her,’ he told The Project last week.

He added that he believed she will have ‘difficulty trying to figure out who her friends are when she’s a teenager’.

‘I know who my really, really close friends are now after 10 years of having a career. But I think for her it’ll just be from the beginning,’ continued the superstar. 

‘I hope she’ll know who are her real friends and who aren’t. But we’ll see.’

Ed and wife Cherry welcomed Lyra in August last year.  

The couple tied the knot in a private ceremony in January 2019.

They first met as children when they both attended Thomas Mills High School in Framlingham, Suffolk.
