Morbius Final Trailer Wants to Remind You: Oh Yeah, Matt Smith Is in This – Gizmodo

Screenshot: Sony Pictures Morbius? You’ve finally got me a bit worried. When the movie was first announced, I was basically stunned with disbelief that such an nth-tier Spider-Man foe would get his own major motion picture. When I saw the first couple of trailers, I was genuinely impressed. But now that the Jared Leto anti-hero movie’s final trailer has arrived, all I feel is this: Hasn’t this all been basically the same, outside of two or so moments of footage? We’ve seen plenty of him trouncing goons during the battle in the ship’s plumbing room. We know all about his rare blood disease, his trip to far-off somewhere-or-other, getting swarmed by countless CG bats, and coming back with superpowers and an unfortunate tendency to lose his nose. Vampire sonar across New York City? Glide...

What is long covid? Current understanding about risks, symptoms and recovery. – The Washington Post

The condition known as long covid continues to frustrate its sufferers, baffle scientists and alarm people who are concerned about being infected by the coronavirus. The term, a widely used catchall phrase for persistent symptoms that can range from mild to debilitating and last for weeks, months or longer, is technically known as Post-Acute Sequelae of SARS-CoV-2 infection, or PASC. But scientists say much remains unknown about long covid, which is also referred to colloquially as “long-haul covid,” “long-term covid,” “post-covid conditions” and “post-covid syndrome,” among other names.

BA.2 omicron variant: 2 new COVID symptoms reported – AL.com

The BA.2 COVID-19 variant, a subvariant of the omicron variant, can manifest different symptoms than the original strains, according to reports. KREM 2 News reported health officials were seeing two additional symptoms with BA.2 – dizziness and fatigue. The symptoms come along with those reported by omicron patients such as sneezing, coughing and sore throat, along with other cold-like symptoms. BA.2 – known as the “stealth” omicron for its ability to evade some tests – is believed to be about 30% more transmissible than the original variant but does not appear to be more severe. BA.2 has been blamed for a growing number of cases internationally but is not widespread in the U.S. despite being reported in all 50 states. In the U.S., BA.2 caused about 4% of COVID cases for the week endi...

Lack of association between pandemic chilblains and SARS-CoV-2 infection – pnas.org

Significance Chilblain diagnoses have increased during the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) pandemic and have been attributed to viral infection and a subsequent robust antiviral immune response. As a result, providers have managed these cases differently than idiopathic chilblains, which are associated with cold exposure. The relationship between pandemic chilblains and SARS-CoV-2 infection, however, remains unclear as most patients do not test positive for SARS-CoV-2–specific PCR or antibodies. To better understand this disconnect, we enrolled cases of pandemic chilblains in a study and performed detailed immune profiling of antibody and T cell responses. Additionally, we compared immunohistochemical staining of pandemic chilblains with prepandemic tis...

Bucatini all’Amatriciana Recipe

A Classic Roman Dish - Bucatini all'Amatriciana Like many of you, Meg and I watched the Stanley Tucci special on CNN called Searching for Italy. In the Rome episode, he has lunch at Armando Al Pantheon to enjoy their famous rigatoni all'amatriciana, one of Rome's famous pastas. I made it a little different and call it bucatini all'Amatriciana. Of course I had to run out and buy the ingredients so we could make it at home. Not a lot of ingredients and very simple to prepare and absolutely delicious. Let's look at some of the ingredients. Bucatini Bucatini is a pasta that looks a lot like spaghetti but it is thicker and has a whole running down through the strand. My kids like to say it looks like a straw made out of pasta.  If you lived in Naples, Italy, you would call...

Basquiat Is Hotter Than Warhol—and Now a Billionaire Wants to Sell a 1982 Work for $70 Million – The Wall Street Journal

A billionaire who recently rocketed to the International Space Station said he is sending one of his prized Jean-Michel Basquiat paintings to auction this spring for an estimated $70 million. The move hints at the shifting whims of the world’s wealthy but also underscores the continuing strength of the art market overall.  Yusaku Maezawa wasn’t well-known in art circles when he paid Christie’s a record-breaking $57.3 million for his untitled 1982 Basquiat six years ago. The collector reveled in the win by posting an image on his Instagram account, shrugging off the typical discretion exercised by some top buyers.

Having certain health conditions in adolescence may be linked with faster aging in adulthood, study says – CNN

Adolescents ages 11 to 15 who were obese, smoked cigarettes daily, or had a psychological disorder, such as anxiety, depression or ADHD, biologically aged nearly three months faster every year than their peers, according to a study published Monday in the journal JAMA Pediatrics. The research used data from 910 people who were part of the Dunedin Study, a long-term investigation that tracked the health and behavior of participants born between April 1972 and March 1973 in Dunedin, New Zealand, following them from age 3 until they were 45 years old. By age 45, the new study found that participants who had two or more of those three general health concerns -- smoking, obesity or psychological disorders -- as adolescents walked 11.2 centimeters per second slower, had an older brain age b...
