We also want to see and understand what lies beyond our beautiful habitat. You know, those places we can't reach by plane, boat or car. Only a high-tech, billion dollar space shuttle can get us there. Wow what a privilege it must be to soar to the moon or Mars. Talk about having an exclusive career. Not many could compete with such a job. For the rest of us, we're forced to observe from down here. Not that it's difficult anymore. With all the great satellites in place, media specials concerning astronomy, and the Hubble telescope, we see plenty. Heck, you can even purchase an exact replica space shuttle model if you please.
Get your children interested in astronomy! This is a phenomenal field that could always use a fresh mind or two. I have been intrigued by outer space ever since I was a small child and received a mini space shuttle model for Christmas one year. At first I wasn't sure what it was. I called it an airplane. But, my father quickly explained that the toy was a space shuttle model, resembling that of what astronauts travel in. I was flabbergasted and in awe. Was I going to fly to the moon one day? I couldn't help but imagine such adventures. Until one bizarre day, that is. I was in the fourth grade when it happened. My class was watching a space shuttle launch on television. It was a major deal to the faculty since a teacher was going into space for the first time. Everyone watched in silence as everything went completely wrong. No one made it to the moon that day. All heads fell in sorrow as the space shuttle blew apart. At this moment I realized how dangerous being an astronaut is, and why they're considered heroes. This is when I decided to stick with my space shuttle model and dreams of outer space. I would have to observe from down here.
A toy space shuttle model is a great gift for any child, regardless of gender. Although you may not wish your children to become astronauts, there are plenty of other jobs at NASA. Just because you have a passion for space, doesn't mean you have to go up there.
